So he had attempted to be polite, turning his attention away from her. Until she called out to him and he turned around and was met with honestly the most amusing sight he's experienced in quite a while.]

[She expects the moments after they sign the contract to be filled with joy, and they are. Her transportation from her small and run down apartment in the Down is swift, Ezio insists she share his room and his bed whenever she can, and she understands in that moment that while the Bunker may have been where she kept a room, where she returned to after her missions, but when Ezio asks her to sleep beside him she understands what home really means.

That night they celebrate, an intimate dinner that she tells him not for the first time is unnecessary, but with her visor off and the warmth in her eyes as she lifts her fork and eats anyway she knows her protests aren't convincing. She can taste, she does enjoy food, and sharing a meal with Ezio may not be necessary to function but she can feel it changing the part of her he would call a heart. It's an internal component, surely, and it functions differently but very much the same when it comes to feelings of love.

She does sleep that night, in a deeper cycle of self-repair than she might usually allow, and when they wake they greet the morning as lovers.

She knows she has never been happier than she is in his arms, his hands carefully pushing her pale hair away from her eyes as he looks down at her, and it's a moment so perfect she's sure to make a recording of it so it will never be lost.

The day progresses and things turn south, though, after they part ways for such a short time it seems to hardly matter. When she returns, comes home, his demeanor is obviously different. She tries to speak to him and receives very little in return, but her nature means she doesn't find it to be her place to press for the reason. Hours pass, her sitting somewhat uncomfortably in Ezio's bedroom waiting for something, some indication of how time is passed among housemates who are intimate, but he doesn't come in.

Night falls, and still she sits in the chair near the window and he doesn't come. Slowly the realization that he must regret choosing her, an android, so much lesser than the wonder of a human, and her heart, that part of her she didn't think could feel warmer or fuller, sinks.

He has changed his mind. That's the only answer. Finally, with dread settled sickly in her stomach, she stands. She goes to find him, hand resting lightly on the doorframe, visor off and eyes troubled.]

Something has changed. Will you tell me what it is?

[It was insane and terrifying how much your life could change in the span of a day.

It was also breathtaking and miraculous. The changes which had taken place in Ezio's were a distinct mixture of both.

Those first few beautiful moments after they had finally signed the contract that would bind them together were joyful and celebratory, more like a marriage certificate than anything that named them as Dominant and Submissive. He had wanted nothing more than to have this with her, and it was such a very different occasion than when he had signed the same piece of paper with Leonardo at his side. Had wanted to have her with him as often as possible, to fall asleep next to her and to wake with her still in his arms. Had wanted it so badly that his heart ached each time she would leave him.

It wasn't that he minded if there were others - there had been many for him as well. But this, what he had with her, was different. There was a promise that he would always return to her eventually, that she was the one he would now return home to. She was his home, in very much the same way Leonardo was. They would stray, there would be others, but they would always return to one another.

Falling asleep next to her had been everything he had ever wanted, so incredibly far from what had once been with Christina, and what had been with Caterina. He had held her within his arms until she fell asleep - until she closed her eyes and went into the self-repair mode that served as such - and had kept her there until the first, pale streams of sunlight had begun to pour through the large windows.

She had woken and he had looked at her and nothing in his life had ever been more incredibly breathtakingly beautiful than she was in that very moment. He had brushed the strands of blond hair from her face that always obscured her eyes from his vision, had kissed her soft lips and whispered things to her in his native tongue. Had made love to her in a way he never had before, slow and passionate and tender.

He hadn't wanted to leave her, but the day had broken and there were things that wouldn't wait. It was intended to be such a short amount of time that it would hardly matter. They would return to one another and retreat back into the sanctuary of his room - of their room and shut out the rest of the world.

But then he had made the mistake of asking questions of 9S that he shouldn't have, that he regretted now with his entire being. Instead of being happy to see her when she returned home, he could hardly even bear to look at her. When she spoke, he could hardly bring himself to answer her.

All of this time he had fooled himself into thinking that she was human, forcing himself to forget that she was an android, that she was programmed to love him. That they viewed humans as gods and that was how she loved him.

Like a god. Like she was programmed to.

It hurt. It made his heart ache in ways that were far too familiar. Like the way it had cracked and torn when he had watched Christina die in his arms, unable to help her or ease her pain. Like the way it had shattered when he realized that all Caterina had ever wanted from him was the aid of the brotherhood he at his disposal, of his uncle's troops, in a selfish attempt to reclaim land.

She would have loved anyone as she did him. Did she love the other's she went to? Or had he simply managed to endear himself by being the first? Had he earned some special place in her programmed human hierarchy?

Her love for him wasn't real - and he could only ever describe what he had felt from her as that, as love, so deep and intense it had shaken his very soul. He had loved her in return, had fallen for her so quickly and so completely that she held all of the pieces of his battered heart inside of her chest where her own was meant to be.

He loved her still, despite how he wished he could make it stop. He would probably love her always.

Having spent literal hours in the company of Leonardo had helped to sooth the wounds that had been left. Speaking to A2 had, shockingly, aided him in seeing that perhaps despite it being a programmed emotion, it was still one that was wholly her's, that it couldn't and wouldn't simply be replicated by any other android of their type. That what she felt for him was different than what she might have felt for another.

Lucrezia had told him that he deserved to be loved, that whoever he had chose deserved his love in return. A love that was born of passion, of want and wanting. That went past reference. Past everything. That 2B had choosen him out of all the men here.

But the thought that her feelings for him weren't real still lingered in the back of his mind, and so he had continued to pull away from her. Had gone into the large main room instead of into the one that was now theirs where he knew she currently sat. Waiting. Waiting and waiting for him to come to her. But he didn't. He wouldn't.

He didn't regret it, giving her this contract. Giving her his heart. He still could not bring himself to think of her as somehow lesser than a human simply because she had been made. But he couldn't stand that her feelings might not be real, that they may be manufactured. It made him feel sick to his stomach, made him feel weak.

It's dark when she comes to him, the sun having long since set. Less than twenty-four hours ago he had been laying with her, heart completely healed and light as a feather. Now it felt shattered and heavy, useless in a way that made him wish he could be rid of it. She speaks and he glances upwards from his place upon the sofa, barely long enough to take in the way those dazzling eyes look so trouble. Eyes that are bare, as they always are when they're together.

Honey brown have darkened into something muddy and dull, his skin unusually pale with dark bags beneath each eye. Lines and wrinkles that have etched themselves into his skin seem deeper and more pronounced with his sadness, making him look even older than his forty-three years.

She speaks and he doesn't want to hear her, doesn't want to have to respond. Perhaps he could simply act as if she doesn't, could feign ignorance of her presence.

Maybe he should let her go and save all of them from this. Keep their contract so that he knows she will be well taken care of, but let her be with another. Let her be with 9S.

He probably should.

He should.

But then he looks at her fully, properly, and something deep inside of him cracks.

Something had changed. But how was he supposed to tell her? He could only imagine how very angry she would be with him, just as A2 had been. He could leave those parts out, but she would find out. He knew she would find out.

Something had changed, and he takes a deep breath, forcing himself to continue looking at her. He loves her so much. With all of his heart. And he doesn't want to be without her.

But he has to know.]

[Lucrezia is ever the diplomat, and she does not with to make matters worse. She knows this must be about a girl they both share affections for, even if 9S has not admitted so. She must tread carefully in matters of the heart if her suspicions are true.

She is not unwholly affected that Ezio may care deeply for another, but then he is not truly hers, so she cannot be mad at him for it.]

I do not mean to make matters worse or speak unfounded, but it seems we have a friend in common, and it was my words to him that have opened wounds with you. Please forgive me for not explaining to him that my own desire for love is not the same as all of humanity.

[Oh. God. Now Lucrezia has been drug into all of this and honestly he regrets ever having replied or spoken to 9S at all.

He doesn't realize that her own affections for him run so deeply that she might be at all bothered by this sudden revelation. That particular piece of knowledge would only make him feel even worse.]

It is not your fault, Lucrezia. [Her putting the blame onto herself when she wasn't at fault only makes him more angry.] You could not have known.

Action, shortly after The Android Fiasco begins

[Leonardo is not at all surprised when he hears Ezio come into his room that evening, as twilight was beginning to turn to night. Ezio usually came to check on him about then, to insist he at least have some food before it became too dark out. Dismissing Ezio's concerns about his health was the next step in their routine, followed by a stern Leonardo from Ezio's distractingly kissable lips. Following that was a small excuse of business, before Ezio coerced him out into the kitchen to grab at least a little something to eat. That was comfortable. Familiar. It was their ritual, and it was a comfort in this terrible place.

But as his eyes lock onto Ezio's face, he can instantly tell something is wrong. He can feel his heart stop as he registers how distraught his best friend appears. It's enough to make Leonardo immediately move to Ezio, one hand resting upon his shoulder while the other reaches up to cradle his right cheek. Concerned blue eyes scan over him for a moment, before Leonardo regains his breath long enough to speak.]

Dio mio... ti prego, caro amico. Come - sit with me.

[And Leonardo removes his hands, only to grasp his hands and gently draw Ezio to his bed. Leonardo sits immediately, leaving a seat beside himself for the assassin.]

You must tell me what's happened, everything that's happened! You look terrible.

[If anything, Ezio is late in his timing to come and nag at Leonardo that he must take care of himself, that whatever he was currently working on would wait while he ate and got a bit of rest. Normally it would conclude with them getting a little something, before retreating back to Leonardo's room, where Ezio would sit upon the bed and watch his friend work for hours, until he either curled into a ball and fell asleep or wandered tiredly back into his own room.

He had thought, just the night previous, that he would have all the more reason to want to retire back to his own room, to not spend quite so much time each night in the presence of his friend, trying to combat his own loneliness.

But then it had all exploded and blown up on his face and honestly he was starting to think that maybe it was just better if he let her go.]

I am fine, Leonardo. [Truly, he did look utterly terrible. There were dark bags beneath his eyes and the lines that begun to etch themselves upon his face were further deepened. His heart ached, so deeply and so completely within his chest that he didn't know if it would ever stop.

But then Leonardo took his hands and lead him towards the bed and he sat down on it without hesitation, looked at his friend for a moment before shifting, lifting his leg's onto the remaining space, heading coming to rest upon the other's thighs.]

I am a fool, Leonardo. I always fall for the wrong people.

[The times that Ezio and 2B are not home at the same time are very rare, but they are known to happen. Usually they time these moments so they happen at the same time, but tonight is different.

Ezio has gone and 2B had sent him off with a kiss and a knowing, very small smile as she wished him well, and once she had been certain he was gone she had closed herself up in his - in their room with one singular purpose.

Research.

Ezio has been a wonderful teacher in her time here, but 2B has found herself wishing for once to surprise him, to show him something new, turn the tables on him in a way and compile a database of sexual activity to try with him, things she intends to do with no one else. This list will be special, applied to Ezio alone, and so she cultivates her prospects the most effective way she can.

With a small laptop bought with money from his own allowance she sits on the bed, fully clothed but with her visor off, and scans through a small collection of pornography. But with the current state of the city, Haven Clinic had been in need of extra supplies, and so he had made an extra visit to one of the dealers located within the black market who had sold to him before.

When he had left, he hadn't mentioned where he was going or how long he expected to be gone. It was better if she didn't know, better if she thought he was going to visit someone instead.

And so he's quiet when he slips back in, moving through the dark apartment by memory, silently removing his boots and jacket near the door, fingers loosening the buttons on his shirt and leaving it hanging open.

When he see's her, it doesn't instantly register just what she's looking at, only that she's very intently staring at something. Seated upon their bed, still fully clothed from the day, eyes bare and cheeks flushed. For a time, he simply leans against the door frame and stares in at her, smiling softly to himself, admiring how beautiful she was and how lucky he was to have her.

Until the very distinct sound of a woman moaning leaked out from the small device's speakers and suddenly it became very, very clear what she was doing.

That smile turned into a smirk as he moved forward, footsteps nearly silently, even going so far as to hold his breath as he got closer. Before slowly sinking down behind her, lips seeking out the warmth of her neck as he spoke.]
